International Family of Nations: Lesson 1

Caribbean countries are members of international organizations for example, the Commonwealth and the United Nations. International Organisations have logos/ emblems. We share an interdependent relationship with global partners. The Commonwealth and UN organizations provide many areas of cooperation and assistance for member countries.



An 'organisation' is a group of individuals working together to achieve one or more objectives. They are composed of individuals and groups of individuals. They are oriented towards achieving collective goals.


Examples of organisations include schools, banks, government agencies, etc. Organisations maybe be for profit or non-profit. They are for profit that means they try to earn money from its services.


Organisations maybe local, Regional or international. Some major international organisations are as follow: World Bank IMF USAID Lions Club


Can you name some local and regional organisations?


A 'country' refers to a territory with its own borders as well as total sovereignty over its territory and people. The world's countries are represented by flags.


If two or more things are interdependent, they depend on each other.

A logo is a graphic mark, emblem, or symbol used to aid and promote public identification and recognition.

1. In your own words, what is interdependence? 2. Do you think this is a good thing?


3. Research some ways in which St. Kitts and Nevis depends on other countries in the region.


4. List the names of some local organisations in St. Kitts and Nevis and say what they do.


5. List the names of some regional organisation in the Caribbean and state what they do.


6. Why do you think organisations need to have a logo? Does your school have a logo?
